CraftyPod 2.0: Crafty Celebrity and Internet Jealousy, with Vickie Howell

In the seven years I've been making these podcasts, I've generally steered away from interviewing "crafty celebrities" – not for any personal reasons, but because I've always felt that well-known crafters are already getting a lot of coverage. I've always wanted this show to be about people you may not have met yet.

But a few months back, I was doing a little video interview with Vickie Howell about her newest knitting book. And in that interview, she said something really thought-provoking: she said that it's very important to her that the successes she's achieved in craft don't end up making other crafters feel bad, or lesser.

I knew that was the seed of an amazing podcast – a discussion about the internet jealousy we all feel at times, and about what it's like to feel those feelings when you're also a leader in your community. I was thrilled that Vickie agreed to talk with me along these lines, and even more thrilled with her honest take these two big topics.

I believe so strongly that this conversation has value for all crafters, I'm putting this one up for free, permanently, so as many people as possible can listen to it. I hope it gives you some big, chewy new thoughts.

CraftyPod 2.0: Taking Creativity on a Cross-Country Tour, with Jess Greene

Earlier this year, I ran across an Indiegogo campaign for a very ambitious project: Jess Greene wanted to drive across the U.S., hosting fifte free creativity events along the way. I love a grand undertaking like that, so I chipped in right away.

Jess embarked on her Jumpstart Creativity Tour in July and August, and shared stories and pictures along the way on her blog. It was such an interesting story, I had to have her on the show to talk about the experience. Jess is something of a crusader for creativity. She runs Seek Your Course, which is a database of online art and craft courses and also a creativity resource for adults.

Jess believes that creative play is as important to wellness as exercise or eating well (and I couldn't agree more). In this tour, she was able to create safe spaces for creating to happen, and she managed to be in the right place at the right time for a lot of people who needed a dose of making. This is a very inspiring story. I hope you enjoy it!

An Audio Christmas Card from Pam & Diane

For the past three years, Mom and I have been doing an annual podcast together, in which I've interviewed her about various aspects of the holiday season.

This year, we decided to do something a little different, and just record one of our many conversations on a subject we revisit again and again - Christmas cookies! We had so much fun, and laughed a lot, and we hope you'll get a kick out of the result.
