Danica Patrick: Mindset, Spirituality and Living Fully

I recently had a friend tell me I needed to do an interview with someone special. I’m always hesitant on suggestions, but my friend has done thousands of interviews and he said in his top five was Danica Patrick. I felt I had to give her a shot and I’m so glad I did. She and I are on the same wavelength. We’re both into sports, consider ourselves to be spiritual people, and believe so much in the power of the mind. Danica has a strong presence you can feel the moment she walks into the room and yet she is still one of the sweetest and most thought-provoking people I’ve met. She’s had so many insightful things to say. For those of you who don’t know her, Danica Patrick dropped out of high school to pursue a career as a race car driver. In 2005, Patrick became the first woman to hold the lead during the Indianapolis 500. Only three years later, she was the first woman to record a win on the IndyCar circuit. After switching to stock cars, Patrick won the time trials at the 2013 Daytona 500 - becoming the first woman to win the pole position at NASCAR. Patrick has become one of the most recognizable athletes in the to world, having graced the cover of ESPN: The Magazine and TV Guide. She was also featured in the 2008 and 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She has appeared in 14 Super Bowl commercials (more than any other celebrity). She’s not only an amazing figure in the world of sports, but she’s also a great author and mentor. She’s just released her newest book, Pretty Intense, that brings light to living health from mind, to body, to diet. Discover all of that and much more, on Episode 592. Some Questions I ask: How she feels on the paleo diet (11:49) You’ve become more about spirituality lately, right? (15:26) What’s the biggest take away since you started going down that rabbit hole? (22:22) How did you arm yourself against criticism throughout your career? (25:22) What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome? (26:44) Do you feel like people attack you in the races? (29:11) How do you handle your ego? (31:15) What’s the question you’ve never been able to answer for yourself? (38:37) How do you condition yourself before practice or a big competition? What’s the greatest moment for you in the last 20 years [in terms of racing] (47:25) How do you condition yourself to believe in yourself? (48:27) What’s the greatest lesson your father taught you? (50:48) If you could give yourself advice when you started, what would it be? (52:38) What are 3  things you want to manifest this year? (55:00) On this episode you will learn: The things Danica and I have in common (9:10) When she started lifting for fitness (13:48) Why she started getting into spirituality and healing with the mind (20:39) How she conditions her mind against the intense pressure of competing (23:34) How she gets people to believe in her (27:25) Battles she’s had with her ego throughout the last 20 years (30:05)? What she would do if she could do anything in the world (36:34) What she’s revealed about herself last year that she hadn’t revealed before (41:51) How long races are (46:23) The message she gives to women who aren’t as confident in themselves (47:56) Who inspired her the most growing up (50:18) The greatest lesson her mom taught her (51:08) What she has to open up about during this year (54:16) Plus much more...

    Leave Your Legacy

I constantly think about the fact that the only definite thing in this world is what we leave behind. Money comes and goes, belongings eventually break or get thrown out, but what people say about you will never change. This got me thinking about an amazing episode I did with Ray Lewis. Ray has been leaving a legacy not just in football, but to the world. On this 5 Minute Friday, we hear some of the most inspirational words about how anyone can leave a legacy and fulfilled life behind when they go on Episode 591.

Valentin Chmerkovskiy: The Art of Dance, Success and Pursuing Your Dreams

So often in American society, we revere and talk about athletes, artists, and entrepreneurs -- but not as often do we acknowledge dancers in the same way. Especially male ballroom dancers. However, with the rise of popularity of the hit show, Dancing with the Stars, this sport has become much more popular in the U.S. And a part of that rise to popularity and appreciation is today's guest, Valentin Chmerkovskiy. If you've seen him on the show (winning twice and competing at the top multiple times), you already know what a brilliant dancer and artist he is. But you might not know the rest of his story and perspectives. Val and I met through social media a few months back, but I didn't realize how cool he was until we met in person. Not only does Val have the hard-earned wisdom of a long-term elite athlete (he's been winning championships since he was a teenager), he also is a successful entrepreneur, social media influencer, coach, and now an author. But what I really loved talking to Val about was how he has developed an incredible level of confidence in doing what he loves -- even before it was popular. Val's humility and focus shows up in all his work. As we discussed what dance has taught him about being a good partner, human being, and man, I was really inspired to keep pushing myself to be better. And of course, we made plans to go salsa dancing as a result. I'm excited and proud to bring you this insightful conversation about what is possible when you go for your dreams because YOU believe in them in Episode 590. Some questions I ask: What has dance taught you about being a great human being? (15:44) What are the key elements to create an explosive, captivating performance? (19:20) How do you get to a place of confidence if you don't feel comfortable with yourself? (21:04) How do you approach connecting with a new partner to get the best performance out of them? (23:36) In this episode you will learn: Why Val is still proud of the titles he won as a teenager (1:03) How ballroom dancing is viewed differently in Eastern Europe versus the U.S. (4:50) The story of how Val got into ballroom dance as a kid (7:45) The secret skill you probably didn't know Val has (trained for 16 years!) (13:08) How partner dances teach you to be an excellent communicator (17:58) How I got over my fear of dancing and learned salsa (26:30) The best way to deal with bullying (31:30) The difference between giving 100% and giving 99% (39:15) Val's perspective on being an immigrant and why it's so motivating (48:45) Plus much more...

My Success Habits, Rituals and Morning Routine

How you start and end your day matters. I get a lot of questions from listeners about what my morning routine, daily habits and nighttime routines look like. So I decided it was time to record a solo episode answering this exact question so that anyone who asks can get a quick answer :) The truth is, I believe that healthy, consistent routines make a massive difference in our daily performance and our long term health and happiness. So even though I'm not perfect at following mine every day, I know what a big impact it makes when I do. Keep in mind that these are just my routines. I've developed them over years of trial and error. Some I got from playing sports, some from studying optimal health, some from going to meditation training, and some from friends. They all serve me, but what I hope you do after listening to this episode is choose habits that serve YOU. Habits are only as useful as the results we get from them, so I invite you to experiment with your own habits until you find ones that work. Here are my favorite ones in Episode 589. In this episode you will learn: What time I wake up (5:45) How I start my day (6:15) Why I make my bed every morning (9:15) How exercise cleanses us (10:08) My morning meditation ritual (12:22) My bedtime routine (17:21) How I prep for a big event or interview (22:34) Plus much more...

    Choose What Lights You Up

I used to believe that money was a main factor in creating happiness. But then I learned that when you spend all of your time chasing the dollar, it brings you emptiness. The real reason to chase after money is so you can have the freedom you need to experience life’s beautiful moments. Chasing the endless dollar is just as bad as being stuck in a cubicle all day. Money is great, but you have to use it to achieve your higher purpose and do the things that actually bring you happiness. This got me thinking about a past episode I did with Scooter Braun, who gave amazing insights to what wealth really means and how to achieve true happiness. Discover what exactly it takes to have wealth in all aspects of life, on Episode 588. In this episode you will learn: The mentality you need to have about money (00:51) How you really achieve happiness (2:12) What you are really working hard for (3:03) Your chances of being super successful (4:36) What you need to do to be in the top 1% (6:25)
